Description
Harrison Valley Farms is a Harrison family operation. John and his wife, Kim, own and live on the home base farm in Millersburg, Missouri. Their oldest daughter, Janelle, also lives on the farm, helping with daily herd management tasks. Their youngest daughter, Olivia, enjoys bringing her kids out to the farm, to help check cows on the Polaris side-by-side! Currently, their operation consists of 45 – 50 registered South Poll cows, a group of herd and for sale bulls, and a small flock of registered Australian and American White Sheep. Their cattle and sheep are rotationally grazed on 250 owned and 100 leased acres of land. Harrison Valley Farms is a Charter Member of the South Poll Grass Cattle Association and has been breeding and raising South Polls since 2010. They breed for longevity, cows with strong maternal instinct, excellent udder condition, calving ease, consistent breed back, ability to raise a strong healthy calf every year, perform in a 100% grass-based low input system, and tolerance for weather swings that are typical in the Central States area. Their past livestock experience includes commercial cattle and sheep sales; custom beef and lamb finishing with sales by the carcass section; and retail meat cuts sales to grocery store chains, high-end restaurants, and families at farmers markets. Now the Harrison's sell their heifers and bulls as seed/replacement stock animals. Their past experience gives them an insight into what their current and prospective customers want as they start or grow their South Poll Grass Cattle herds.
